Case 1
Computer Training College |
Bert, the manager of a computer training college has problems scheduling the use of their training facilities and specialist equipment.
Two lecture halls and five computer training laboratories are available. There is also a room for meetings and other events. Each room has a variety of equipment and a logbook, where instructors are supposed make their reservations in advance. They often forget.
The 'pen and paper' reservation system works fine, but cannot accommodate an instructor phoning in to check the availability of rooms and equipment, or the need to extend or reschedule class times when courses are cancelled. There have been many occasions when the rooms were reserved, but were unused; and times when as many as three groups arrived to use one laboratory.
The training manager sees an advertisement for EZbook and investigates the web site. He then follows the simple steps for setting up his own site.
Setting up EZbook is simple. Bert first names his EZbook site, which will be used as the firm's web address (their URL). As 'Administrator' he has full access to all the admin functions. He then uses the simple dialog box to enter the names, short logon names and passwords for each of the instructors and receptionists who need to make reservations.
Bert decides that the resource types
provided as start-up defaults do not apply to his situation and sets up his own. He uses the 'Resources' screen to enter
details of each of the lecture halls, laboratories and the meeting room,
giving each a specific name and description. He also enters the times
and days when these resources will be available for reservation.
Returning to his User List, he creates User Groups,
which he names "Literacy", "Applications" and "Technical", allocating
instructors and receptionists to these groups. His
setup takes approximately 30 minutes.
Using EZbook' e-mail feature, Bert then sends, to the users, their logon names and passwords and the web address of the site.
The instructors take a day to become familiar with the new reservation system. They quickly see the advantages of this excellent system.

| Case 2 Service Company with Branches |
Acme Appliances is a distribution and service company with a head office and two branch offices. The company is introducing several excellent new products and the staff members require training. The head office is in Morley and there are branches at Hopeland and Portville.
Scheduling the company's limited training facilities has become a problem. There are meeting rooms, training rooms (with audio-visual equipment) and parking spaces that have to be shared by staff and customers.
During a round of golf, Acme's Marketing Manager,
Andrew, invites his friend, Bert, to visit him at his office.
"Just call and tell the receptionist when you need parking.
Our reservation system is a bit chaotic, but hopefully she can sort it out."
"EZbook is the answer to your problem - and I presume this putt will also be a cinch",
says Bert with a confident smile. "EZbook has sorted out all our reservation problems.
Just log onto www.EZbook.com and you're there."
Andrew, absorbed in his own thoughts, misses his putt.
Later, when Andrew goes to the EZbook website, he decides that the humiliation of losing the golf match was worth the result, because EZbook is exactly what the company needs. He wastes no time in asking his Office Manager to setup his EZbook site.
Acme's Office Manager, Carol, lists the available resources and the staff who are authorized to reserve these. She logs onto EZbook to register and uses 'Acme' as the name for the company's specific site. The process is straightforward and it takes her about thirty minutes to complete the setup. She sends e-mails to the staff, providing them with user names and passwords, and explains how to use the system.
It takes a day for the staff to realize that reserving office resources with EZbook is really easy. It's now possible to plan ahead, check which resources
are available at the branches, reserve parking spaces between locations - and there are no more bad tempers! It does wonders for Andrew too; he wins
the next three rounds of golf against Bert!

| Case 3 Small Legal Firm |
EZbook solves scheduling problems for even small companies with just a few resources to reserve.
Simon is the Senior Partner in Solomons, Smithers and Snifkin, a long-established legal practice specializing in commercial contracts. He is extremely embarrassed when he arrives at his Boardroom, with important clients, only to find that the company's auditors already occupy it. They have spread their papers and files across the huge table. Not wanting to upset the auditors or his clients, Simon apologetically moves his meeting to his own office, where additional chairs are brought in. Simon's meeting is cramped, but tolerable, until coffee is served and a cup is accidentally knocked over.
Simon investigates the double-booking problem after the meeting and discovers that it occurred because of a misunderstanding between two secretaries. During the discussion they all agree that some better method of resource scheduling must be found.
"James, can you please look into solving this problem",
says Simon.
Half an hour later, James has found
EZbook on the Internet and is already configuring a site for the practice.
It not only solves Simon's reservation problems, but when he phones his clients
later that day, he does them a favor too.
"Sorry we had such a cramped meeting this morning", he says apologetically.
"You'll be pleased to know we have now installed a web-based service called EZbook.
The problem should never happen again
it looks like an incredible system !"
"Is it something we should use for scheduling the church hall?"
"Absolutely, I'll get James to setup EZbook for you also."
